The second Judge Anderson story in
this collection disappoints after the tremendous Four Dark Judges story that
accompanies it, but it still has much to admire. In this one, a Cthulhu like
demon called Gargarax possesses a young boy. The boy’s father is part of a cult
dedicated to summoning the entity and they have succeeded. Anderson
investigates with the aid of a group of psychic exorcists, but Gargarax kills
them, and flees with Anderson in pursuit, as the other Judges round up the cult
members. Anderson chases Gargarax into the Mega City One sub-city, which is
full of mutants and monsters of its own. Various reprobates there try to rape
the sexy cop but she easily escapes them, and chases Gargarax through a dimensional
portal into another world full of demons. Here, a stronger cult plans to
sacrifice the boy, now separated from the demon, in order to use his blood to
guide them into Mega City One and destroy the Earth. Anderson is wounded by
arrows on the way to rescue the boy but heals herself with some magic powders
that she just happens to be carrying. She kills Gargarax, but he warns her as
he dies that she is too late to save the boy. Realizing t the truth of this,
Anderson kills the boy herself in one of the comic’s most shocking moments.
Pursued by the demonic cult members she throws herself to certain death through
a window, but an eagle like bird saves her, until it is itself attacked by
flying men with bat wings. Anderson falls and breaks her leg. She struggles
back to the portal she came into the demon world through but it is locked. From
the other side, the judges force cultists t o reopen it so Anderson can get
through safely, resealing it against the hordes giving chase as she gets safely
inside. They then sentenced cultists to thirty years detention each. . There
are great moments, such as the spectacularly drawn castle of demonic faces and
gargoyle skulls, and that great shock moment of the utilitarian killing of a
