DIARY – FRIDAY 8th DECEMBER to MONDAY 11th DECEMBER 2006.

LAST ENTRY  7th DECEMBER    NEXT ENTRY 12th  DECEMBER

FRIDAY 8th DECEMBER 2006 – No response from Orange, and I have decided not to ring them until tomorrow. When I do, if I have to, I will certainly make a more formal complaint about their abysmal service.

Job hunting produced few results. I ended the evening with a peasant beer or six with my friends in The Fringe Bar, Swan Street, Manchester.

SATURDAY 9th DECEMBER 2006 – Saints preserve us – I woke to a phone call from Orange -  they told me  how to adjust my e-mail settings and the system finally sprang back to life. They should apparently have told me this in the first place, when I first  told them I had issues last Monday. I have to request a refund now for the time lost through their incompetence.  The rest of the day was spent taking care of 1,344 e-mails.

I also learned that FAB Café,   my favourite bar in Manchester are having their annual Xmas bash on Tuesday 12th December. They sent tickets. Something to look forward to.

My friend Gill phoned  up to suggest we meet up next weekend for drinks and to take in a film. Life looks good again right now.

SUNDAY 10th DECEMBER 2006 – A quiet day working on my computer, reading books, followed by beer in FAB Café, and saw a lousy film (Russ Meyer’s yawnfest - Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls), followed by more beer in FAB Café.

I came home to a Chicken and chips dinner  that my parents had bought at a local delivery take-away shop. Very nice it was too.  I was asked about which real ales I like and dislike. I have sampled hundreds, good and bad, but I was astonished how few I can actually remember specifically by name. I am starting a web page specially about my real ales now. See REAL ALES.

MONDAY 11th DECEMBER 2006 – I posted nineteen new abstracts to my Abstracts pages on Shvoong. You can see the full list at www.shvoong.com/writers/arthurchappell/

I did some job hunting online, and saw a job for a copywriter   working for an advertising company. I sent my CV online, and to my astonishment, they responded within minutes by phone and asked me to come in for an interview this very day.

I set out early to do some Christmas shopping on the way out. I now have everyone’s presents. I just need to write lots of cards now. The tram ride to Trafford Bar was easy going, and  the Metrolink wasn’t very crowded. I found the company offices quickly. They were within sight of the tram stop. With half an hour to go before the interview and it being so cold, I popped in a quiet  pub called The Tollbooth. You can see my review of that on my PUBS IN MANCHESTER page.

The interview itself went very well.  The two chaps I spoke to were clearly impressed by my CV and my writing talents. I took several examples of my work along with me. I will know on Thursday if anyone came along with better credentials or not. As I left the offices, the chap on reception gave me a Mince Pie. He had boxes full of them and offered them to all the visitors to the premises. Rarely have I left an interview feeling so happy.

The tram taking me back to Piccadilly was full to capacity and I barely got on.  I got off in Manchester and popped in to see my mate Tom at his offices and give him his free ticket for tomorrow’s FAB Café Xmas party, which I am also attending. I then called in The Fringe Bar  for a drink or three with my pals there. I got home quite late on, had my tea and headed for bed.
