FILM REVIEW - BAISE MOI
Highly controversial, violent and hardcore pornographic French thriller where even the title gave offence (literally translating as Fuck Me). Many people find Baise Moi offensive, and it remains banned in the Australian Cinema. I just felt that it isn’t really very good.
The story as such concerns two Hedonistic young beautiful French girls who are gang raped and then seek revenge, not just on their molesters, who they dispatch near he beginning, but also on just about everyone else they meet. They kill men who want to make love to them on the slightest excuse. One man is shot down for wanting safe sex and trying to take time out to put on a condom. Another man is shot in the arse.
Women are also killed, mostly so the girls can steal their credit cards to finance their nihilistic and pretty pointless murder spree.
At one point the girls lament that they have no witty lines to utter as they kill their victims, and this is largely the film’s failing too – it is a very humourless, dispassionate romp. Hardly anyone in the story is remotely likeable or sympathetic. The girls even kill one man who offers to help them kill the rapists. They seem to want their murders to attract attention from the police, and die together in a blaze of glory. They fail. One girl is shot down by a have a go hero in a failed attack on a garage shop. The other tries to kill her to join her but gets captured by the police instead.
The film tries to be trendy, arty and taboo breaking. It fails to actually be remotely interesting along the way.
