OSMOSIS JONES
Wonderfully inventive mix of live action and animation as an anti-body
(Osmosis) and his friend Pill, (a common cold tablet with delusions of
superheroism) battle against a contagious germ to save the city of
Frank (actually the innards of Bill Murray, who has foolishly eaten an egg
that was stolen off him by a zoo monkey and then dropped on the floor -
The inner city of Frank is an amazing landscape with each part of the
cityscape reflecting aspects of the world outside, the brain is the
political seat of the city, the sweaty left armpit is a steam room/sauna
for the local gangsters who approached by the Virus with his new plans to
kill Frank respond (just before being killed off) "Take him up to the
face and bury him in a blackhead" Best of all is Tom Colonic, an
opposition party political candidate who gives a broadcast from the slum
bowel district, by promising to clean up the place and even interviews a
young turd with a baseball cap "Turd - what's that smell" Tom - "That's the
smell of change, son. That's the smell of change". When Frank's
temperature goes into overdrive as he is pushed closer to death the
citizens of Frank discus what has happened to the Weather, three
musicians in the inner ear behave like the musicians on the Titanic, as it
sank "It's been a pleasure working with you gentlemen", and the subconscious
traps fragments of random memories of Frank's which are watched like
Movies in a theatre by the inhabitants of FRANK, Osmosis and Pill at one
point catch up with an informant, a flu germ who has turned copper's nark
greeted by Pill with "He doesn't look Flush to me" Loads of other great
inventive gags too. A real gem of a film The live action stuff isn't
anything special, but the inner landscape stuff is something else, and Pill
is a truly great character, a cross between Buzz Lightyear and Daredevil,
with a fixation on his own advertising label.
Some moments are both funny and touching, such as Osmosis clutching a photo of his Father, whispering, "We've always been cops. My papa fought against the Measles."
