A very under-rated photo sharing site with a difference, Woophy is set out as a global photo-map with contributors able to send photos as highlights of any town, or city on the planet, whether the photos be of landscape, wild life, seascapes, or people, buildings, local pageants, etc.

The site tends to mainly attract serious photographers and commentary & feedback tends to be serious constructive criticism though some commentators seem to just want to ogle girls and take candid photos of women from behind, and talk about the women thus imaged as if they are having a relationship with them.

Woophy has a ratings system enabling photographers to be marked out of 5 stars for each image, though many readers just say a photo is worth five in comments without actually clicking the ratings. You can also rate yourself, which some photographers exploit.

There is a lively forum and an excellent if complex blog facility on Woophy, which is free to use and depends on reader’s voluntary contributions for its survival. They could do with carrying ads or Google Adsense for improved profit ratings, and overall the quality of the images presented runs very high.

Photos can be slow to upload having to be posted one by one and it is easy to end up posting images for the wrong geographical location. Trawling through photos to read and rate them can also be a little slow but it is well worth the effort. Generally, if someone reads and comments on your photos reciprocate and add favourite photographers and images to your profile pages too, and you can make lots of lovely friends on Woophy, and some photos there are truly works of art. It’s a handy means to see the World, and even gives latitude / longitude information on locations that surprisingly include Antarctica. A beautifully worked out website that deserves wider attention.
